We provide hotels, pubs and taverns insurance advice across Australia

Opening your own licensed venue is the realisation of a long-held dream for some. Whether you’re a talented bartender or your skills lie in welcoming patrons to your establishment, you’re likely to have people coming and going, and often at a fast pace.

Sifting through the myriad of insurance policies on the market and knowing what insurances you need can be a minefield. That’s when an experienced insurance broker who can guide you through the maze and explain the pros and cons of insurance can be very helpful.

However you choose to run your business, one thing is certain – hospitality business insurance is essential to cover you if and when the unexpected happens. When you’re in the hospitality industry and you’re dealing with the public, this tends to be a certainty rather than a maybe.

Whether your venue is large or small, there’s a host of insurance policies on the market from which you can choose such as workers’ compensation insurance and products liability insurance. There might also be compulsory insurance such as public liability for example, which landlords usually require you to have – but there are also certain types of insurance you shouldn’t be without if you want to protect your business.

If you operate your business in WA, NT, QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS or SA – our hospitality insurance brokers can help. Get A Quote »

Trusted Expert Advice in Hotels, Pubs and Tavern Insurance

Insurance can be complex. Often you think you’re doing the right thing by taking out a particular policy, only to find you’re not adequately covered for a scenario when it comes to making a claim. This can be costly, time-consuming and frustrating.

As experienced business insurance brokers who understand small business and the hospitality industry, Phoenix can work with you to ensure you have the right policies in place to protect your venue so that if the worst should happen, or something unforeseen occurs, you can get back to serving your customers as soon as possible. With Phoenix Insurance Brokers, we can take care of the details, giving you peace of mind and leaving you to get on and do what you do best.

Some people dream of running their own hospitality venue but that doesn’t mean there aren’t challenges and risks along the way and a lot of hard work. While we can’t help you serve your customers, we can put you on the right path when it comes to insurance. Whether you’re starting something from scratch or buying a franchise, and whether your venue seats 50 or 500, having the right insurance in place is essential to protect your business against unexpected challenges.

What Insurance Policies Cover Hotels, Pubs & Taverns

We know you have a lot to do when you’re running your own hospitality venue, so you probably don’t have time to sift through the different types of insurance policies available on the market. That’s where we can help. After getting to know your business and your budget, we’ll weigh up all the risks and your unique business situation and suggest policies tailored to your venue. Below are some of the different types of insurance you need to consider for your Hotel, Pub or Tavern.

Public Liability Insurance

Public Liability insurance can protect you against third party claims. If a patron at your venue gets injured or has an accident, or even if a delivery person injures themselves while on your premises, a public liability insurance claim could be made against you. Hospitality Public Liability insurance is one of the most important types of business insurance if you operate a licensed venue.

Product Liability Insurance

One of the biggest threats to a business serving food and drink to people is food poisoning. If someone gets sick after eating at your venue, they can potentially have cause to make a claim against you. This could really damage your bottom line if you’re not adequately protected.

Product Liability insurance can cover you for the cost of any damages awarded to a claimant and the costs associated with investigating and defending a claim made against you.

Worker’s Compensation Insurance

You can’t run a hospitality venue without staff and your staff need protection especially if they operate machinery and they’re up on their feet interacting with the public. Worker’s Compensation insurance is mandatory throughout Australia and protects you from costs if one of or more of your workers gets injured or falls sick because of something at work.

Property Insurance (Building, Contents, Stock, Theft, Glass, Money)

If there’s damage to your property – this includes the building itself, the contents within it, the ever-changing levels of stock you keep – you’re going to be grateful that you got yourself covered with Property Insurance.
Not only does this include unforeseeable damage, it can also include theft of contents and money.

Business Interruption Insurance

If there’s a flood on your street and you lose power for a period of time, or something beyond your control prevents you from running your business, Business Interruption insurance can cover your operating expenses, such as your leasing costs or wages. It may also cover the costs of food and product spoilage.

Equipment Breakdown Insurance

If your cool room or oven breaks down, you can lose income, customers, and your reputation so it’s important to make sure your equipment and other tools of the trade are covered.

Insurance cover for your equipment can protect you against repair or replacement costs. Cover can also extend to protect you from loss of stock if food is spoiled due to equipment failure due to breakdown or electrical fault for example.

Management Liability Insurance

If you have employees, then Management Liability Insurance is something you should consider.

This can cover you for a wide range of business exposures including for legal costs and damages stemming from employment practices disputes (such as bullying, harassment and wrongful dismissal).

Cyber Liability Insurance

Cybercrime in SME’s is growing rapidly and the biggest error hospitality business owners are making is assuming it doesn’t apply to them.
If your business collects customer data (think Members or Newsletter recipients), or uses technology to process orders, then cyber liability insurances is something you should consider.

Get Covered For What’s Important to Your Business

Opening your own hospitality venue can be hugely rewarding. Of course, it’s a lot of hard work, but the joy of creating your own atmosphere, amazing food & drinks and great memories for your customers can be a very satisfying experience. Or perhaps you’re already going and insurance has been on your ‘to do’ list. Now that we’ve covered the basics and some insurance options for you to consider above, there’s no better time than today to get in touch with your local Phoenix Insurance Broker to talk about how we can help you safeguard your venue.

While insurance is our business, our philosophy is about people and building strong, solid relationships with them. We partner with all our clients to achieve the best possible outcomes, for them, their families, and their businesses.
